Sustainable innovation

In recent years there seems to be a global consensus that we need to rethink our approach to innovation and take into account the impact that innovation has on the environment. To address these concerns, UNESCO has defined 17 sustainable development goals and at a more local level, the challenges identified for Green Grenoble 2022 also serve to encourage changes in thinking and our corresponding behaviour.

Our planet’s resources are becoming more and more scarce and the pressure on the environment is reaching breaking-point. It should be obvious that we need to innovate in a more sustainable manner and innovate to protect our environment. This is particularly true for digital technologies where energy consumption, in particular, can be enormous.

How can we confront this necessity to do more with less? How can we develop new technologies while taking the environmental impact into account?

A number of concepts have been developed such as environmental management, the Green Code, frugal innovation etc. But are these concepts well-known? Understood? Followed? And at what level? By local authorities? Companies? Individuals?

  • To share an approach of responsible innovation,
  • To contribute to a better understanding of sustainable innovation within the ecosystem,
